About the vaccine

Pfizer Comirnaty® LP.8.1 — the 2025–2026 Covid vaccine

The Pfizer/BioNTech Comirnaty® LP.8.1 is the updated mRNA Covid-19 vaccine for the 2025–2026 season. It replaces the previous XBB 1.5 and KP.2 formulations, and has been specifically adapted to target the LP.8.1 subvariant — a descendant of the JN.1 Omicron lineage that has become the dominant circulating strain.

The LP.8.1 vaccine has received regulatory approval from the MHRA in the UK and is available as a fridge-stable pre-filled syringe for adults and those aged 12 and over. Pfizer’s phase 3 data shows the LP.8.1 vaccine generates at least a 4-fold increase in neutralising antibody levels compared to pre-vaccination.

At Claygate Pharmacy, we are proud to offer this latest formulation privately, so you don’t have to wait for NHS eligibility. Our team has been involved in Covid vaccination since the programme began.

Who should get vaccinated

Why choose private Covid vaccination?

The NHS Covid programme now focuses on those most at risk. But many people outside these groups still benefit greatly from protection.

Travellers
Respiratory infections are significantly more likely when travelling. Covid is no exception — and access to healthcare abroad is limited, making prevention especially important.

Protecting loved ones
Many of us have elderly or vulnerable relatives but are not ourselves eligible for the NHS vaccine. Getting vaccinated privately protects those around you who are most at risk.

Workers & key roles
Healthcare workers, teachers, those in hospitality or public-facing roles, and anyone in a close-knit team where illness causes significant disruption.

Underlying health conditions
Those with diabetes, heart disease, respiratory conditions, or compromised immunity who want up-to-date protection regardless of NHS eligibility.

Events & occasions
Weddings, family gatherings, large events — when it matters to stay healthy for an important occasion or to protect those you’ll be spending time with.

Peace of mind
Anyone who simply wants the reassurance of being up to date with the latest available Covid vaccine, regardless of NHS eligibility criteria.

NHS vs private

Our commitment to NHS vaccination

We wholeheartedly support and endorse the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme. Our team has been actively involved in NHS vaccination since the programme began, and we continue to support it fully.

The NHS programme now focuses on those at highest risk from Covid complications — older adults and certain vulnerable groups. However, Covid-19 remains a health risk for everyone, and many people outside NHS eligibility criteria still benefit significantly from vaccination.

Our private service uses the same Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine as the NHS programme — the latest LP.8.1 formulation — so you receive exactly the same quality of protection, just at a time and for a purpose that suits you.

If you believe you are eligible for a free NHS Covid vaccination, please check nhs.uk for current eligibility criteria and how to book through your GP or local NHS service.

FAQs

Common questions about private Covid vaccination

What is Comirnaty LP.8.1 and how is it different to previous Covid vaccines? +
Comirnaty LP.8.1 is Pfizer/BioNTech’s updated 2025–2026 mRNA Covid vaccine. It replaces the previous XBB 1.5 and KP.2 formulations and is specifically adapted to target the LP.8.1 variant — a sublineage of Omicron JN.1 that became the dominant circulating strain in 2025. The LP.8.1 vaccine generates a stronger immune response against currently circulating variants compared to earlier formulations.
How much does the private Covid vaccine cost at Claygate Pharmacy? +
The private Covid vaccination costs £95 per dose at Claygate Pharmacy. This price is inclusive of your pharmacist consultation. There are no hidden charges.
How long since my last Covid vaccine do I need to wait? +
We recommend waiting at least 3 months (ideally 6 months) since your last Covid vaccination before receiving the LP.8.1 vaccine. This allows your immune system to fully respond to the previous dose before receiving the updated formulation. Our pharmacist will advise you at your consultation.
Who is the vaccine suitable for? +
The Comirnaty LP.8.1 private vaccine is suitable for adults and those aged 12 and over. It is not suitable for people who have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of a Pfizer Covid vaccine, or who are currently unwell with a fever. Our pharmacist will confirm suitability at your consultation.
What are the side effects of the Comirnaty LP.8.1 vaccine? +
Side effects are consistent with previous Comirnaty formulations. Common side effects include soreness at the injection site, mild fatigue, headache and low-grade fever — these typically resolve within 1–2 days. Serious side effects are rare. Our pharmacist will ask you to wait briefly after the injection for monitoring. Any suspected adverse reactions can be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Can I get a Covid vaccine and flu jab at the same appointment? +
Yes — you can receive a Covid vaccination and flu jab at the same appointment. This is safe and clinically recommended where both are due. Please mention this when booking so we can allow sufficient appointment time.
Do I need a GP referral to get a private Covid vaccine? +
No. You can book directly with us online or by phone — no GP referral or NHS eligibility check is required for private vaccination.
